Depot Museum

The Depot Museum is located in a former Texas & St. Louis Railway Company depot. The original building was built between 1880 and 1885. It spotlights many local and regional historical interests dating back over 1,000 years when the Caddo Indians lived here.

Farmstead Museum

Visitors to the Farmstead Museum will learn what life was like in the late 1800’s and 1900’s in rural East Texas when they visit the oldest home in our county.

Ezekiel Airship Exhibit

The Depot Museum is perhaps best known for its replica of the Ezekiel Airship. The original Airship was built a block from the Depot and was flown in 1901, a year prior to the now famous Wright Brother’s flight.

Friends of the Museum & Donations

Please consider joining our museum as a supporting member. We depend upon memberships and donations for our operation.

Anyone can join and there are various price packages to accommodate any budget.

We are a charitable non-profit organization and can accept tax-deductible donations.

History of the Museum

The City of Pittsburg acquired the Depot from the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1988 to save it from demolition and to convert it into a top-notch museum.

Local volunteers worked tirelessly to create a place where you and your family can learn more about Northeast Texas history and culture.

Facility Rental

We offer the most unique venues for hosting your next event. These range from an open-air pavilion with a 1900 farm as a backdrop, to a room with a replica of a 1901 airship overhead, to a small conference room. The latter two have access to a kitchen and serving area.
Through the forethought and hard work of local volunteers, the Northeast Texas Rural Heritage Museum remains intact for future generations to learn about our rich history.

The Northeast Texas Rural Heritage Museum consists of two award-winning museums, the Depot Museum and the Farmstead Museum – both for one admission fee.

Among a treasure-trove of unique items in our museums are:

  • Artifacts from native Caddo Indians
  • A working telegraph station
  • An 1894 telephone switchboard and antique telephones
  • A printing press from the late 1880s
  • A 1909 Studebaker Surrey
  • A 1925 Model T Ford
  • A 1927 American LaFrance fire truck
  • A fully furnished farmhouse and farm equipment from the 1900s

Among these items, you will also see many other collections from our history and rich East Texas culture.

Our biggest crowd-pleaser, attracting people from all over the world, is the replica of the Ezekiel Airship. The original Airship was flown here a year prior to the Wright Brothers Kittyhawk flight. And, from the Depot Museum, you can actually see the location where the flight took place.
